About Kaladarshana

Purpose
This website is a photographic journal on ancient and medieval historical sites in India. Sites are visited on the basis of architectural beauty, art-historical importance and geographical obscurity, in that order. The pictures and discussions centre around a complete interpretation of setting and architectural form and line. This is attempted at two levels. First, monuments are described in terms of their history, architecture, and iconography. Second, they are placed in an art-historical context by pointing out patronage, artistic evolution and inter-regional influences.
